When it cools down after use, the vaporized tungsten is deposited back onto the filament, which helps to extend the lifespan of the bulb.
  • Xenon HID: Xenon taillights are well known for being very bright and being able to illuminate the road ahead of you for quite a long way. They have a special design that foregoes the standard filament in favor of creating an electrical arc between two electrodes. This arc intensely energizes Xenon gas inside of a special bulb, which then gives off enough intensity to shine very far down the road. The bulb cant be made out of regular glass, as it wouldnt be able to withstand the extreme temperatures and pressure created by this type of bulb. Instead, they use a special type of quartz crystal, which is engineered to be able to take the extreme conditions.
  • LED: One of the most recent developments for taillights us using LEDs to provide an efficient and bright source of illumination. Because of the way that LEDs work, they are very energy efficient and are able to provide sufficient illumination without taking up much in the way of physical space. As such, manufacturers are able to get far more creative in the designs that they want to use for taillights because of the flexibility that LEDs provide.
