Honda CR-V Taillights

Do a courtesy to other drivers and defend your position on the road by ensuring the functional capability of your Honda CR-V taillights. With a variety of options available, it’s easy to maintain or replace the taillights on your Honda CR-V vehicle.

What taillights are there for the Honda CR-V?

The two types of taillight technologies for your Honda are incandescent bulbs and light-emitting diodes, or LEDs. Incandescent bulbs are composed of a metallic filament enclosed in a glass housing. When the filament is electrified, a bright light is emitted. These types of lights generally last between 1,000 and 2,000 hours. LEDs do not contain any glass or filaments and instead are composed of various semiconductor materials. When illuminated, LEDs shine with incredible brilliance and do not get hot even after hours of use. These types of lights are also highly energy efficient and are rated to last 50,000 hours which equates to 5.7 years of continuous use.

How do you install LED bulbs on a Honda CR-V?

When the conventional incandescent bulbs in Honda taillights burn out, many CR-V owners opt to upgrade to long-lasting LED taillights. While instructions may vary slightly based on the year of manufacture, installing LED bulbs in Honda CR-V taillights is easy and takes about half an hour for each light. It is highly recommended that the bulbs in both CR-V taillights be replaced at the same time.

  1. Turn off the engine and open the tailgate.
  2. Pick a side to start with and remove the three screws holding the taillight assembly in place. Pull the assembly a short distance away from the vehicle.
  3. Turn the bulb sockets counter clockwise to remove them from the assembly. Disconnect the electrical harnesses from the bulb sockets.
  4. Connect the wiring on your new LED bulbs to the electrical harnesses. Insert the LED bulbs into the taillight assembly.
  5. Push the assembly back into the cavity and replace the screws to complete installation. Repeat these steps for the opposite side.
How do you replace the taillight assemblies?

Sometimes simply changing a light bulb just doesn’t cut it. When dealing with a cracked lens or otherwise damaged taillight, it’s often necessary to replace the entire assembly. Replacing the taillight assemblies on your Honda is easy and only requires a Phillips screwdriver and about an hour of labor. It’s strongly recommended that both taillight assemblies be replaced simultaneously.

  1. Turn off the engine and open the liftgate.
  2. Starting on one side, remove the three screws that secure the tail light assembly. Pull the assembly a short distance away from the CR-V.
  3. Disconnect the electrical harnesses and discard the old assembly.
  4. Position the new assembly into place and connect the electrical harness.
  5. Push the new assembly into the cavity and insert the 3 screws. Repeat these instructions for the opposite side.
