Dodge D150 Tail Lights

When you need to replace the taillights or assembly in your Dodge D150 model, make sure that what you get is OEM certified. If it is not certified by the Original Equipment Manufacturer, then it might not be compatible with your truck. Make sure you understand the different types of taillights for your Dodge car so that you know which ones you need to replace your old set.

What types of taillight bulbs are there?

There are several different varieties of Dodge D150 taillights available; the following are three of the more common.

  • Halogen: These bulbs use a tried-and-true design that is similar to the incandescent house lights that many people are familiar with. However, halogen taillights have one major difference from the incandescents in your house. They swap out the gas inside for one of the halogens. Under normal circumstances, the metal that makes up the tungsten filament inside the taillight heats up to such a degree that the surface atoms start vaporizing. This would normally weaken the filament, and would lead to an early burnout. However, because of the halogen gas, a special reaction can take place that negates this issue. When the bulb cools down after use, the halogen gas helps to deposit the vaporized atoms back onto the surface of the filament, re-strengthening it and helping the bulb last longer.
  • Xenon HID: Interesting in design, these taillights are well-known for emitting bright light that has astounding range and field coverage. The way that these lights are able to create such outstanding light output is because of their lack of a filament. Instead, there is a short gap over which the electricity is able to jump from one electrode to another. When the current jumps, it does so through xenon, which becomes highly energized. The highly energized gas particles respond to this by emitting the bright light.
  • LED: LED taillights have a number of features, including excellent energy efficiency and small size for the amount of illumination that is provided. These factors make LED taillights an interesting choice for vehicle manufacturers, as they are able to be creative in the way that they design the lights.
