Key Features and Design

The Ref 1680 watch has a 40-millimeter case with acrylic crystal. This model offers improvements in water resistance over its predecessors. It remains resistant to water damage to depths of 200 meters.

The dial is dark black and features simple indexes. In some versions of the Ref 1680, the indexes are luminous for extra visibility when diving. Like other Rolex Submariner models, this one has the signature Mercedes-style hour hand.

The 1680 is known for its use of tritium, which provides unique glow-in-the-dark lighting. Under cool light, the tritium in the dial shows an off-white color. However, it turns brighter once hit by warm sunlight.

Surrounding the dial is a bidirectional bezel. It has a black aluminum insert and shows a 60-minute timing scale. The Rolex Submariner watch has a traditional stainless-steel three-link bracelet. Inside the steel dive watch is the Rolex Caliber 1575 movement. The movement has a cam and jewel system to power the date window, a 48-hour power reserve, and a free-sprung balance for precise timing adjustments.
