Piezas de Pinza de Freno para Dodge Ram 2500

Dodge Ram 2500 Caliper Parts

The Dodge Ram uses disc brakes to slow down and stop the truck. There are a number of essential Dodge Ram 2500 parts that are needed to make sure the caliper system works well. If you are going to be working on the calipers of your Dodge Ram 2500 pickup, there are some things you should know.

How do calipers work on a Dodge?

When you press down on the pedal to stop the Ram 2500, you increase the fluid pressure going to the caliper. The pressure forces a piston inside the caliper to press pads or shoes on a bracket against the rotor. The force of the pressure of the pads against the rotor causes the Dodge Ram 2500 to slow down and stop.

How is a caliper for a pickup truck made?

The main body of the caliper is the heavy metal housing unit along with the following associated parts and hardware :

  • Housing unit: The housing unit sits over the edge of the rotor. The housing unit contains the piston and chamber parts for the brake fluid. The fluid flows in and out of the housing unit to increase or decrease pressure on the rotor.
  • Piston: The piston sits inside a chamber in the housing unit and is forced out by the pressure of the fluid. A seal sits at the base of the piston inside the chamber to prevent leaks. At the head of the piston is a rubber boot. The rubber boot allows the piston to expand out of the chamber when the fluid pressure increases. The boot retracts and pushes the piston back into the chamber when the fluid pressure decreases.
  • Bleeder screw: A bleeder screw fits into a valve opening on the back of the housing. The screw is turned counterclockwise to bleed air from the brake lines. The screw is turned clockwise to close the valve.
  • Pins: Guide and lock pins are used to connect the bracket to the housing. The guide pins make sure the pads press against the rotors at an optimum angle to properly press the face of the pads against the flat surface of the rotor. The lock pin holds the caliper assembly together.
  • Support bracket: The support bracket is bolted to the caliper and holds the two pads on your Ram 2500. The bracket also fits over the rotor on the vehicle.
  • Covers: Covers help keep the caliper and brakes clean. Clean brakes can help extend the life of the pads and rotors.
