How to Make Sure That Your Vehicle has Cool and Hot Air When You Need It

A blower motor has the responsibility of keeping you warm or cool in your vehicle. It is the component that pushes air through the heater and air conditioning vents, depending on the control settings. Without it, or if it is broken, no air will be able to pass through.

How Do I Know If My Blower Motor is Failing?

Knowing the signs of when your heater blower motor is failing or bad is important to make sure that you can replace it and continue to have adequate air ventilation in your vehicle. Some of the signs you can look out for are:

  • Weak airflow: Heater and air-conditioning units have different fan settings from low to high. A blower motor that is weak or starting to wear out will not be able to provide suitable airflow or regulate the temperature, even if the settings are on high. If the problem is getting gradually worse, then its definitely time to replace.
  • No air from vents: If youve turned on the air flow but nothing is coming out no matter how much you play with it, it most likely means that the blower has burnt out or short circuited.
  • Random air flow: You may only experience air coming out at certain settings but not all, which could mean a failed blower motor resistor in your auto. Your system should be able to regulate the temperature at different air speed settings but failure to do so will likely mean a replacement resistor is what you need, rather than the whole unit.

How to Replace Your Blower Motor in Your Dodge Grand Caravan

You can find replacement parts to be able to carry out this task but should only attempt if you are experienced with mechanical workings. Replacing this part will not take too long; just make sure you follow instructions carefully on how to do so. The basic process is as follows:

  • Step 1: Find the blower motor electrical connector and disconnect it then remove the retaining screws.
  • Step 2: Remove the box and blower assembly then take out the motor retaining screws. Remove the motor from the box.
  • Step 3: Confirm you have the right replacement part, then install the new part and tighten the retaining screws. Following this, re-install the motor assembly. Re-connect the electrical connector wire and check that the heating and AC system works by adjusting the switches and controls.

If you find that just your heater blower motor resistor has failed, which is the part that controls the motors speed, you can easily replace this part only without having to replace the whole unit.
