Binks Automotive Spray Guns

Painting an automobile is not the same as painting a wall. It requires specific spray guns, such as the Binks Spray Gun. These spray guns provide a nice and even coating of specialized auto paint to the vehicle and get the job done efficiently.

What is the Binks spray gun brand?

Spray guns got their start in 1890 with their invention by Joseph Binks. A division of Carlisle Fluid Technologies today, Binks is a trusted brand in the spray gun industry and their products are widely used by both professionals and hobbyists alike for painting autos, boats, structures, and more. The Binks brand is focused on the following:

  • High-volume low-pressure or HVLP spray guns and kits to convert guns into HVLP
  • Pressure from low to high conventional sprayers
  • Both airless and air-assisted sprayers
  • Accessories such as pumps, regulators, and feed tanks
What are some common features with Binks spray guns?

While individual models may have some differences, most Binks models have similar components.

  • Fluid needle valves are where the fluid moves through the gun.
  • Air and paint nozzles are where the spray leaves the gun. Different nozzles will add different pressures. HVLP kit nozzles are not always standard.
  • The hose or pot connection is where the fluid feeds into the gun.
  • The trigger, grip, and control screw should be inspected for general good condition.
What is a Binks HVLP spray gun?

With a standard spray gun, the spray is atomized into tiny particles and then, using compressed air, the spray is blasted at the target. With this method, only about 30 percent of the paint actually gets applied, with the rest released into the surrounding air and atmosphere. There are some benefits to using an HVLP.

  • They are mandated by law in some areas. Restrictions are more heavily applied to industrial and commercial use than hobby use.
  • Many conventional guns can be easily converted to HVLP with a specialized kit.
  • They protect the environment.
  • There is less waste.
What is the difference between airless and air-assisted spray guns?

Airless and their counterpart, the air-assisted airless are additional alternatives to the conventional or HVLP systems. As with any system, they come with their own advantages.

  • An airless model is a high-pressure system that uses high PSI equipment to quickly blast the spray at the target. This allows for some of the faster application and production values. However, this high volume can cause uneven finishing with an inexperienced painter.
  • An air-assisted airless model is a gun that allows lower pressures to be used, similar to an HVLP. However, the air-assisted injects air into the fluid to create a softer finish.
